Here comes the 2025 season!
After all the hard work put in by our members over the winter to ensure that our green is in tip-top condition for the 2025 season, we are looking forward to our opening weekend on 12-13 April.
The working party have been hard at work putting our green to bed for the winter. Specialist machinery was brought in, as can be seen in the videos below, to hollow-tine, (removing approximately 25 mm deep x 10 mm diameter plugs of the grass), which were then back filled and top dressed. This procedure breaks down the root thatch, improves drainage and allows the grass to "breathe", stimulating better and longer root growth. What isn't immediately obvious from the pictures is just how much heavy, manual lifting work this entailed for the members who did the job and our thanks go out to all involved. There will be more work to do as we prepare for next season - any more volunteers would be very welcome - please talk to Huw Roberts or Tony Mann if you'd like to help keep our clubhouse and green in top condition.
Following on from investment in new machinery and the fantastic work conducted on the green throughout the season, which has resulted in the pace of our green being regarded by visitors as one of the best in the County, we are now moving to the next phase. This has involved commissioning a detailed contour-map of the entire surface, to clearly indicate any raised points or depressions. Now identified, these areas will be gradually top-dressed over the next few seasons, so as to further improve what is already a very good playing surface.
